Chain: Buzz Bingo
Buzz Bingo is one of Britain’s largest bingo chains, with clubs currently operating across Great Britain. The brand emerged from a major rebrand of Gala Bingo, one of the UK’s longest-standing bingo names, which had dominated the retail bingo industry for over 30 years before its transformation.
The £40 million rebrand was completed in stages through 2018 and early 2019, with the new name and identity debuting at Peterborough and Castleford before rolling out to the remaining clubs, aimed at attracting a younger audience while retaining the community feel that had long defined Gala’s clubs. As part of the change, Gala Leisure’s parent company retained the physical clubs but not the rights to the Gala name online, which remained with Entain plc — meaning Gala continues today purely as an online bingo and casino brand, entirely separate from the Buzz Bingo retail chain.
Buzz Bingo has changed hands more than once since the rebrand, moving from Caledonia Investments to current owner Intermediate Capital Group in 2021. Alongside its High Street clubs, Buzz Bingo operates a significant digital presence, including buzzbingo.com and buzzcasino.com, both powered by Playtech software. In 2022, the company introduced a “Single Wallet” system allowing players to use the same funds across both its online and retail estate, reflecting a broader shift toward an omni-channel business model that blends in-club and online play.
