Tooting Buzz Bingo (Formerly Gala Bingo) is located in the premises of an old theatre and offers bingo players the opportunity to play bingo everyday, and it regularly runs promotions to give you better value for your money, including free bingo – give them a ring to see when you can grab a chance to play for free.
As you see from the image below, Buzz Bingo Tooting is situated in an old theatre. The Granada was opened in 1931, and with over 3,000 seats was one of the larger cinemas in London. The exterior is quite impressive, the four columns still appearing to be in good repair. Not only was the exterior a triumph, a second designer, Theodore Komisarjevsky ensured that the inside was as impressive as the outside. The venue featured stars as big as Sinatra, and later it was open for cinema screenings, although that didn’t halt its inevitable closure in 1973. A listed building, it was reopened as Granada Bingo in 1976, and was taken over by Gala Bingo.
The club is located on Tooting’s main drag, it has a bar, diner, and slot machines if you fancy a little spin while you’re waiting for the game to start. There are disabled facilities and 270 car parking spaces are available. Please contact us if you can give us more information on this club’s background or history.

Other Clubs In The Area
This page was a real pleasure to put together, as so often the pictures we publish of bingo halls are of venues that are either now closed, or worse, demolished. Buzz Bingo in Tooting is however still alive and well, and, as you can see the interior has been well maintained. We’re not sure if Gala are legally obliged to keep the interior intact, but we’re sure that even if they weren’t they’d still do their best to maintain this amazing building.
The club was originally the Granada, which was probably one of London’s grandest cinemas. It is up there with the likes of the Gaumont State Cinema on Kilburn High Road, and although not as big, the interior as you can see, is a triumph of art, architecture, and design.
The balcony paintings that you can see are originals, the medieval images reflecting the Gothic design throughout the interior. The first shot shows the marvellous Gothic mirrors, an effect that almost makes the venue look like a church from the moment you step inside, (a distinctly different feel from the Corinthian exterior of the building). The archways continue throughout the building and most contain a huge amount of intricate detail. A fine building and one that we hope will remain open for a long time to come: what a great place to play a game of bingo indeed.
If you are interested in more photographs of old theatres, and a lot of history we suggest you visit Charles S.P. Jenkins’ amazing site, East End Memories, he provided us with these images, and has lots more to view. He has also published stories which can be purchased via Amazon UK, or Amazon US. He also has his own Facebook page – Stories Of London where you can leave a message and another website Stories Of London. Charles has also written a extensive history of Gala Tooting, which can be read here.
