Royal Bingo
Drum Street

The Royal Bingo Club was a small neighbourhood hall in Gilmerton, on the south side of Edinburgh, well away from the city’s bigger bingo clubs. The records give it as 31-33 Drum Street, EH17 8QR, and that’s where the trail starts to thin out. A food hygiene inspection on 7 March 2012 proves it was open and trading then, and a business listing describes it as a bingo hall. Beyond that, the hard facts dry up.
We can’t say when it opened, who ran it or whether it was ever part of a larger group, and we’ve found no evidence of a cinema or theatre past. There’s no architectural or interior detail on record either. Its closing date and reason are also unknown, and the only sign it shut is a listing marking it permanently closed. It’s the sort of small local club that came and went with very little written down, which makes it a good candidate for an appeal to you – so anyone who remembers a Friday night at the Royal might fill us in what the paperwork doesn’t.
