We do know that the Mecca Palais was formerly the Palais de Danse, a very famous Edinburgh Dance Hall, that obviously went the way of many entertainment venues, and was taken over by bingo. It was closed in 2006 when Mecca opened an alternative bingo club at Fountain Park, which was kitted out with all new electronic equipment.

  1. Mecca had three halls in Edinburgh; The Palais (closed and awaiting demolition), The Empire (now the Festival Theatre), and the State Cinema in Leath (now closed and empty).

  2. Just looked at the photos of the Palais in Fountain Bridge Edinburgh. Cannot believe it, I fitted the hall out in 1990 and then again in 2001 what a shame, lovely old building.
