Cumbernauld’s Buzz Bingo was a typical large post-war town-centre club rather than one of the spectacular cinema conversions, sitting at 25 North Carbrain Road right beside Asda in the heart of the town’s deliberately planned centre. Cumbernauld was designated a new town in 1956, and the bingo club fit squarely into that tradition of purpose-built entertainment premises with their own parking rather than an adapted Victorian theatre. It’s worth noting this wasn’t the same building as the town’s older County Cinema and Bingo Clubs venue on South Road, a separate site entirely. The North Carbrain Road club was operating as Gala Bingo by the 2000s, with valuation records confirming its status as a substantial commercial bingo property right up to 2020, before becoming Buzz Bingo in 2018 as part of the wider rebrand following the sale to Caledonia Investments.

It held an advertised capacity of around 1,000, offering the standard mix of paper and electronic bingo, a slots room, bar and food, and a free customer car park. In its final years the club leant into a more nightlife-driven format, hosting Bounce Bingo nights with Scottish entertainment outfit Zander Nation, mixing bingo with DJs, dancing and party music, with events getting enthusiastic reviews right up until March 2023. Cumbernauld was one of nine Buzz clubs earmarked for closure that month, alongside Surrey Quays, Dumfries, Slough, Carlisle and others, with Buzz citing falling post-pandemic attendance, cost-of-living pressures and rising energy costs. The final closure was planned for Monday 10 April 2023, meaning the venue was still hosting lively DJ nights barely three weeks before the last numbers were ever called. The building doesn’t appear to have been demolished, and later commercial property records suggest it remains available, quietly waiting for its next use in the town centre.

    1. We don’t have a connection with the club other than featuring their details so you should give the club a call to see if they have been shut as a result of the Coronavirus. At the time of writing bingo clubs have not been orderd to close but people have been advised to stay away and avoid unnecessary travel.
