Betway Bingo is one of several Microgaming brands available online today but of those available, only a few have actually advertised on television. The latest brand to launch on this software is currently being seen in the commercial breaks advertising, but is their marketing campaign one that catches the eye?
The Betway Bingo commercial caught my eye but for all the wrong reasons. It wasn’t because the storyboard for the advert was great or because there was a catchy tune playing or actors dancing across our screen that I felt the need to watch, it was simply because the advert is clearly trying to erect an age barrier between offline and online bingo.
When I first started in the bingo industry some 10 years ago now, I was guilty of the same thing – I used to wax lyrical about certain aspects of online gaming in comparison with offline often to the detriment of the other. However, over the years we have seen the land based industry work hard to shake the blue rinse brigade stigma attached to it and try to attract a younger audience, something it has clearly been succeeding at. The Betway Bingo commercial would suggest otherwise though.
Whilst it doesn’t spend time berating land based bingo, it clearly draws the lines once again between the age demographics (we all know more ladies play then men so the fact it is set in a salon rather than a barber’s is neither here nor there).
Here is the commercial for those who have yet to see it on television:
All in all it’s a rather bland and tedious commercial, I simply have a bee in my bonnet about the age reference. Could it be that I felt I was nearer the age of the clients rather than the stylists? Maybe I’m just offended for myself, not the land based industry as a whole!
