Bingo has always had a reputation as being for the older generation with references often made about “purple rinses” (or blue for that matter) and bingo wings but for quite some time now land based bingo halls have been working to attract the younger generation through the doors. The world of online bingo hasn’t suffered in quite the same way as land based bingo who have seen a number of clubs close thanks to the smoking ban and tax levied upon them. Online bingo has always attracted players from the age of 18 upwards but Mecca Bingo halls are also now appealing to the younger generation thanks to their After Dark nights.
The normal bingo sessions continue in much the same way as they always have but after the main session bingo at 9.30pm many a Mecca Bingo hall becomes a totally different place.
A You Tube clip from Mecca Bingo Gateshead shows the Dream Boys performing live on stage and mentions that this Saturday 26th May, Joe McElderry (X Factor winner 2009) will be appearing live at their club. You can watch the clip of the Dream Boys at Mecca Bingo here.
Appearances like this are fast becoming a regular occurrence at Mecca Bingo halls up and down the country but there are more to the After Dark nights than this. You’ll find Bin-Glo – billed as “an unrivalled bingo experience for the outrageous and wicked side of you”, Rock and Roll Bingo where you can “sing along to your favourite tunes whilst playing bingo” and there is even a Poker League being played on a Monday evening.
Currently there are only a few clubs that participate in the After Dark events but we’ve no doubt that if they continue to be a success, more and more Mecca Bingo halls will jump on board.
