Fortuna Bingo was one of the main bingo halls serving the Caerphilly county borough, and it sat in a building with a cinema past. Redevelopment documents identify Nos. 46-48 Bedwlwyn Road as the former Palace Cinema, and local reporting says the cinema later became a bingo hall. Historical directories also list a Palace Bingo Club at the same address and phone number as Fortuna, so these look like two names for the same operation on the same site. We haven’t found the cinema’s opening date, architect or capacity, and there’s no interior or architectural detail on record. Nor do we know when bingo began, who owned the club, or when the Fortuna name arrived. It was still on the radar in 2024, when a Caerphilly Council retail study found 7% of bingo-playing households named Fortuna as a destination, and it described Fortuna and Castle Bingo at Nantgarw as the only major halls in the study area.
By December 2025 the site was being reported as a former bingo hall, with Wales and West Housing proposing to demolish the old cinema and the neighbouring nursery at Nos. 40-44 and build 24 affordable flats. A full planning application (26/0199/FULL) was reported in March 2026 and drew local objections, mainly over the lack of dedicated car parking. If the plans go ahead, the old Palace will be gone for good.

I have been going to Ystrad bingo since I was 16 with my mother and I’m now 49. I feel very much at home: staff are very friendly and always helpful. I will continue to return until the end of my days.
Appalling. Staff make lots noise hardly heard the numbers being called. No respect for customers playing.
The staff are so rude to their customers it’s a wonder the place ain’t closed down they are very clicky & unfriendly.
I was once the manager there and cannot believe the staff and customers are nothing but welcoming and friendly many happy days there hope the regulars are all doing well go ystrad!!!
Fortuna bingo have been bombarding me with marketing text messages in breach of GDPR rules of May 2018.
You have not sought the right or ask my permission to use my data( telephone number) and this is in clear breach of the law.
That law states that companies who do not comply with GDPR regulations can be fined.!
If I receive one more text I will report you to the appropriate authorities!
