The Workmen’s Hall in Ebbw Vale opened as a live theatre and club in 1907. With bingo becoming a popular social activity in the South Wales valleys the venue switched to permanent bingo during the 1950s operated by the club’s committee.

Following the closure of the nearby Astoria cinema for conversion to use as a bingo hall the Workmen’s Hall became less popular as a bingo club than the much larger Astoria cinema. Having lost its bingo customers the Workmen’s hall reverted to use as a cinema in 1969. The venue continued to screen films through to the mid or late seventies, eventually returning to use as a bingo club in the late seventies.

Once again the venue became a popular bingo club operated by various companies including Castle Bingo and Top Ten Bingo.

Sadly bingo ceased to be an attraction in Ebbw Vale and the venue closed in March 2010. Currently the venue is for sale.
