Glenrothes’ Buzz Bingo was a fairly typical large, purpose-built Gala-era club rather than a converted cinema, sitting on Flemington Road just off the Queensway roundabout, close to Asda, Morrisons and the Kingdom Shopping Centre. It’s worth noting this was a completely separate operation from Glenrothes’ other bingo venue on Church Street, the old Kingsway Entertainments and Granada building, which survives today as Club 3000. Flemington Road offered a large seating area for hundreds of players, paper and electronic bingo, slots with jackpots up to £500, a diner, ATM and disabled facilities, running three sessions most days across mornings, afternoons and evenings, with more than 100 parking spaces and good local bus connections.
The club followed the standard Gala to Buzz Bingo rebrand in 2018, but it barely had time to settle into its new identity. It became one of the earliest and most brutal pandemic casualties, closing permanently in March 2021 after Buzz Bingo’s severe pandemic trading losses forced a company voluntary arrangement and a wave of permanent closures across its estate. That gave Glenrothes only around two and a half years operating under the Buzz name before it disappeared, a stark contrast to the many clubs that limped on until the second wave of closures in 2023. Bingo itself didn’t vanish from the town though. The Church Street club, with its much older Kingsway and Granada heritage, remains open today as Club 3000 Bingo Glenrothes, meaning the town lost one bingo hall to Covid but kept the other running.
