The old Rio Bingo hall has now become Wonder World children’s play centre. The original Rio Cinema, on the same location, was destroyed by fire when it was a bingo. Kingsway entertainments, a local bingo firm, owned the Rio, and built a replacement. In 1993, Granada bought Kingsway, and a year or so later merged with Coral Social Clubs to form Gala Bingo. The Rio didn’t fit in with the long term plans, and so was sold to Dean Entertainments, a Kirkcaldy firm, who run Premier Bingo, and used to run some nightclubs in the Kirkcaldy area. The Rio closed in 2006, but the building was not put up for sale for some time.
