Bristol’s Club 3000 was the final chapter in roughly 25 years of bingo at the Broadwalk Shopping Centre, and its history runs deeper than the Club 3000 name alone suggests. The venue first opened as Riva Bingo around 2000, founded by Brian Fraser, who would later go on to found Club 3000 itself in 2013 after selling Riva to private equity investors in 2004. That genuine continuity between the two brands meant Club 3000’s takeover of Broadwalk wasn’t an unrelated acquisition but something closer to a homecoming, complete with a surviving nod to its past in the venue’s Riva Bar. It offered a sizeable playing area, dedicated slots section, food and drink, and a smoking terrace with gaming terminals, running morning, afternoon and evening sessions in a thoroughly modern shopping-centre setting rather than any converted cinema or theatre.
By the time of its closure it was clearly a major local success story. Bristol City Council’s 2023 Local Centres Study found Club 3000 was the most visited of the city’s four bingo halls, accounting for 29.1% of bingo trips, and the company reported around 34,000 members in Bristol with roughly 3,000 active players and 45 staff. Its closure wasn’t down to declining trade though. In June 2025, structural problems forced the closure of the Broadwalk car park, and despite hoping to stay open into 2026, Club 3000 was ultimately given notice to leave, with the final session held on Friday 31 October 2025. The shopping centre itself is now earmarked for redevelopment. Club 3000 has already committed to staying in Bristol, having secured approval to build a brand-new purpose-built club at Hartcliffe Way, around two miles away, due to open in autumn 2027, meaning bingo at Broadwalk didn’t end through failure of the business, but through the collapse of the building around it.
