Great Park’s Buzz Bingo was a purpose-built, out-of-town leisure club rather than an old cinema or theatre conversion, sitting on Park Way in Rubery as part of the wider Birmingham Great Park development, a roughly 200-acre site combining offices, housing, retail and leisure attractions including an Empire cinema and Hollywood Bowl. It was originally Gala Bingo, established by at least 2008, occupying a substantial 25,660 square foot unit plus an 8,125 square foot mezzanine on a 2.13-acre site with 135 parking spaces, with a directory-estimated capacity of around 1,000. It offered free parking, a bar and diner alongside paper and electronic bingo, and became Buzz Bingo in 2018 following the wider rebrand, with a major refurbishment that December pushing the club towards a brighter, more youthful, late-opening entertainment venue.

The club had a couple of eventful moments along the way. In December 2018, shortly after its makeover, two masked men robbed the venue at gunpoint, though thankfully no weapon was actually seen and injuries were minor. Then in 2021, Birmingham City Council granted planning permission to convert the building into a gymnastics centre during the pandemic, but Buzz negotiated a new lease with the owners and announced it was staying put, reopening as normal. Its eventual closure was much quieter than that near miss. There was no public announcement, with the club still trading and advertising Christmas events in December 2025, but gone from Buzz’s listings by March 2026, with even scheduled February and March events later marked as cancelled. The property has since been sold and is being marketed as flexible leisure, retail or storage space, with potential for residential redevelopment, a fittingly undramatic end for a club that quietly served the Great Park leisure crowd for nearly two decades.
