Club 3000 Bingo Walkden operates from a modern unit within the Ellesmere Shopping Centre on Bolton Road, though the bingo operation itself goes back further than the current building. The club’s roots trace to Buckingham Bingo, with Club 3000 acquiring seven Buckingham clubs in 2011, including Walkden alongside Peterlee, Preston, Old Trafford and Middleton. Rather than staying in the ageing original premises, Club 3000 took up an opportunity offered by the landlord to move into a much larger unit as part of a new shopping-centre development, commissioning architects GIA to design a purpose-built 24,000 square foot bingo hall for around £3 million.
The new club was designed to be far more than a bingo room, with the entrance leading into a large gaming machine arcade before reaching the seating area, alongside bright modern décor, a contemporary bar and café, and a substantial smoking shelter with its own gaming terminals, all intended to keep customers on site for longer rather than simply arriving for a single session. Today it runs the standard Club 3000 format, with afternoon and evening bingo every day, cashpot and early games, gaming machines, food, a licensed bar and wheelchair access, with the main afternoon game at 1.30pm and evening game at 7.30pm. It’s a good example of Club 3000’s early 2010s growth strategy: rather than building an entirely new bingo operation from scratch, the company inherited an established club through acquisition and then reinvested significantly to give it a genuine second life in a much bigger, purpose-built home.
