Greenock Club 3000 Bingo (Formerly Mecca Bingo) – Container Way

Club 3000 Greenock, on Container Way, isn’t a grand old cinema conversion like so many bingo halls. It’s a modern, purpose-built club that forms part of Greenock’s waterfront leisure area, sitting close to the Waterfront Cinema and Tesco. It offers exactly what you’d expect from the standalone leisure-park model: a large gaming floor, paper and electronic bingo, gaming machines, a bar and buffet, and more than 100 dedicated parking spaces on site.

The building has been operating as a bingo club since at least the mid-2000s, originally as Mecca. There’s a nice bit of history behind it too. Greenock’s older bingo generation, based in converted cinemas like the BB on Argyle Street and the La Scala on Inverkip Street, became redundant once this modern club opened, with the La Scala’s bingo operation closing for good in 1997 as a direct result.

On 16 August 2019, Rank announced it had agreed to sell five Mecca clubs, including Greenock, Cwmbran, Hyde Road, Ipswich and Leith, to Club 3000 Bingo for £2.2 million, having concluded the clubs were only making a small contribution to Mecca’s profits. Because the building was already modern and functional rather than an old cinema needing careful handling, the switch to Club 3000 was straightforward, and the venue simply carried on doing the same job under new ownership. Today it continues to run as Club 3000 Greenock, offering traditional and electronic bingo across morning, afternoon and evening sessions, with free on-site parking and its bar and arcade facilities still very much part of the experience. It stands as one of the more seamless handovers in recent Scottish bingo history, with the building, the purpose and much of the offer carrying on largely unchanged under its new name.
