Opening in 1937, with around 1,800 seats, the Ambassador Cinema was a relatively large venue that had a tea lounge, as well as a sprung dance floor, and was probably the main entertainment centre for Portsmouth and surrounding areas. It was opened with Will Hay at the ceremony which must have been quite a coup at the time. It was renamed as the Odeon after a takeover and traded under the name from 1945, until its closure in 1976. Originally a Top Rank Bingo club, it was at some point taken over by Crown Bingo who still operate today.

Im new to Bingo and going to Cosham with friends next Sunday. We have registered. What time should we arrive for the afternoon game?
I would give the club a ring to check their session start times – we’ve not been able to update the times here for a while, but I believe their Sunday sessions are from 11.45. Typically you want to be there half and hour before the first session you play, so you can get a table, get your tickets sorted and buy your drinks and snacks. If you’re going to the afternoon session, there’ll be an early session then the main. You can miss the early, but you may struggle to find a seat if it’s a busy day. Hope that helps.
