Bingo Shout Falls On Deaf Ears

Last week Ronald Price missed out on a £10,000 win for a line in a linked game at Winners Bingo in Wisbech due to a missed call. Obviously Mr Price is quite irate, as this is the second time he has had a dispute over a call at the club.

Plumber Ronald’s card was about to be inspected by the checker but to the dismay of other players the manager didn’t stop the game. The lack of reaction meant that the game continued, and the line was won literally seconds later by a player in another club.

According to Ronald’s wife Denise other players were jumping up and down because their local club had won, but still to no avail. She paints a fairly dismal picture of a full house of players disgruntled at one of their players having missed a nice win.

Worse for Ronald is that this is the second time that something of this nature has happened. A year ago he had a winnings query which ended up with the club paying him £1,000.

The management at Winners Bingo in Wisbech are however adamant that a shout was not heard by either the manager or the bingo caller. It would appear to be a matter of volume, as the manager had warned players before the session started to make sure that their calls were loud enough.

The manager did note that he noticed a bit of movement in the crowd, but by this time it was too late as the caller had moved on to the next numbers. So it would appear that the management are not disputing that a call was made, they are simply saying that it was not heard by the right people.

It would be interesting to hear if any other members at the club have had a similar experience, as this is the second time that ‘lightning has struck’ for the couple who have been playing at the club three times a week for over seven years.

Perhaps next time Ronald wins he should sound off a Klaxon horn! Original article.

Update 15/10/14

Mr and Mrs Price have since been standing outside Winners Bingo in Wisbech collecting signatures for a petition to have Ronald’s winnings paid. The petition has been signed by some players who clearly heard the call. Mrs Price has also sent a letter to the UK Gambling Commission. It looks like this one is not going to go away yet.
