Everyone knows that there is a law regarding the age limit of gambling, and it is a firm eighteen with no exceptions. And if you turn up at a bingo hall looking any younger than 21 you will be asked to provide proof of age. Everyone knows that. Well, apparently not!
A social club in Cradley near Dudley has been visited by the local council after the council became aware of what was going on at the club in late night sessions. The Wilson Hall Labour Club has been told quite strongly that children being involved in gambling activities is not just morally unacceptable, but, it is breaking the law.
Whilst we do our best to stay away from even mentioning politics on this blog (honestly…), I am wondering if the fact that it was a Labour club will be picked up by one of the Coalition in an attempt to grab a bit of political mileage “Coalition saves bingo with tax cut, opposition lures children into life of late night gambling…”.
A storm in a teacup it may be, but issues of the law aside, it’s arguably not great for the kids. They should be in bed. Full stop. Far be it from us to comment on parenting skills, as we don’t know the personal circumstances of those in charge of the children, but, again, the kids should be tucked up at home in bed.
And, whoever was in charge of the events must surely have had qualms about the kid’s participation, then again perhaps not, and it took an anonymous member of the public to report the practice to the council. The council have put an end to it all, and the social club arguably got off lightly with a slap on the wrist, but, bearing in mind the fact that children were involved, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is not the last we hear of this.
