Bingo Fracas In Old Folk’s Home

Despite my constant reiteration of how safe it is to play bingo, it seems that for people above a certain age there is a tendency towards scrapping when it comes to bingo. There have been a few news articles about elderly people and bingo related violence, and the latest is again an incident concerning two female pensioners.

The bingo game was taking place in a council run sheltered housing home in Greasbrough near Rotherham. Apparently the fight broke out when one of the players shouted ‘house’ too early, and the poor housing officer had to ring the police to deal with the scrapping pair.

Neither of the ‘ladies’ have been arrested although one of them has received a warning from the council about her behaviour. Being as I only search for news stories about bingo, I am wondering whether or not older ladies and a proclivity towards violent incidents is a phenomenon restricted to the fervor of bingo? One previous story concerned a punch-up over queue jumping for food in a bingo hall, so maybe bingo was not to blame, and the fight could have occurred anywhere.

Perhaps I don’t get out enough, but I’m wondering if this sort of thing happens in other locations? I’m guessing a prime spot for an elderly scrap would be the post office on pension day, with queue jumping being a common cause. Or, perhaps dinner time in an old people’s home.

Have you witnessed a similar incident? Have you been shocked by a bout of octogenarian fisticuffs? If so, please leave a comment below, we’d love to clear the name of bingo by finding out that it can happen anywhere. Original article.
