Get Creative!

I’m happy to announce that there’s a brand new section at Playing Bingo. The Creative Corner has launched, incorporating our old Your Stories section and expanding in it in all new cultural directions. It’s something I’ve been planning to do for a long time and finally been pushed to create ahead of the closure of our first creative competition.

Considering its mainstream popularity, bingo has struggled to inspire much creative work about itself and the culture and people involved with it. Sure there’s been the odd film and comedy series, but beyond that the bingo hall and bingo culture remain fairly under served in the world. Well, no more – I want to change this, I want there to be loads of content related to bingo, be it art, photography, writing, poetry and what’s more, I’m being pro-active about creating it.

Our 1st Short Story Competition is close to closing and has already had a load of entries. The Creative Corner is set to expand massively in its writing section with these stories. But it won’t end there, we’re hoping with your help we can also add some depth to the other sections in a couple of ways. Firstly, keep an eye out for more creative competitions at the site, a sure fire way of generating loads of great content and for you to get involved. Secondly, if you’ve ever created something that’s been inspired by bingo, be it art, poetry, photography or writing, then we’d love to feature it for our readers. You can contact us to discuss adding it.

I’ve spent a lot of my life involved with the visual arts on a number of different levels. When I worked in land bingo it was only natural for me to use the stuff I loved about the game in my creative work. Bingo featured in a number of short-stories I wrote when younger and was also the subject for art and photography I created. To get the ball rolling I have put up a page in the art section with my youthful sketches I made around my old hall. I’m certain that you can all do a lot better than what I have, so if there’s any artists out there with bingo related work, we’d love to share it.

And the same goes for the other areas, pick up your pen, dust off your sketchbooks, dig our your SLRs and get creating! Let’s give bingo a cultural boost that it’s most deserving of. We’ve got a Creative Corner here at the site now, so lets make it shine.
