Biggleswade County Council are bit upset with Flutters Bingo in Biggleswade about a missing plaque. The plaque was originally mounted by the council on the exterior of the building at a cost of £280, and has recently disappeared. Because the bingo hall was recently redecorated, the blame for the loss of the plaque had been laid squarely at their door.
We are not privy to the discussion between the two parties, but it appears that correspondence has been bouncing back and forth between Biggleswade Town Councillor Rex Skinner, and the club for 18 months. Mr Skinner is also a member of the local History Society who originally put the plaque up. The plaque was one of many mounted throughout the town, to celebrate the town’s history and people of note.
Flutters Bingo have not admitted culpability, and have suggested that the plaque was perhaps taken by vandals. They have also offered £20 to pay for a new plaque, although the offer has been rebuked because the council want £400 for a replacement.
Flutters director Ian Tyler has stated quite clearly that Flutters are not in any way responsible for the missing plaque, and also pointed out the generosity of his club to local causes over the years. We do wish both parties the best of luck in arriving at an amicable settlement on this issue, and when we find out how the issue was resolved, we’ll let our readers know
We’re not detectives at Playing Bingo, and without access to the evidence we are not really in a position to comment on where blame may lie in this case. Are you a Biggleswade local? Do you have any info that could lead to the perpetrator of this crime (if there was one) being identified. If you are, and you can, maybe you should get in touch with the local council, and help them lay this matter to rest. More.
