Date of closure: 17th October 2011
Address (for reference only):
The Strand originally opened as a cinema in 1936. A small independent, it closed in 1961, and later converted to bingo. Closure was due to the owners deciding not to extend the lease when it was up for renewal in 2011, and selling the site for the development of a supermarket. Although planning permission was initially denied, Tesco eventually got their way, and the premises will be demolished. So, another one bites the dust, and as the building will soon not exist, bingo will definitely not be returning.
If you have any further details about the club’s history, and you would like to share them with our readers, we would love to hear from you. If you let us know what you know, we will put the details online with your name credited (if you wish, or we can credit the article as anonymous). You will be doing a service to the bingo community and posterity by helping us record details of all Britain’s bingo clubs and halls. Thank you.
