Date of closure: 2008
Address (for reference only):
At the moment we do not have details of the events that led up to, or any of the circumstances surrounding the closure of the Kings Bingo Shipley, but we do know a bit about the venue’s past.
Opened in 1932, the Glenroyal Cinema had seating for over 1,500, and had an Art Deco interior which was quite common. It was one of the few cinemas that had the facility to let natural light in due to the shuttering it had over five large windows. It closed in 1962, and straight away it was converted for bingo. At some point the bingo hall was closed, but then reopened in 1990 by Walkers. Since closing in 2008, the hall sadly suffered a fire (January 2013), and was subsequently demolished.
If you have any details that may assist us, and you would like to share them with our readers, we would love to hear from you. If you let us know what you know, we will put the details online with your name credited (if you wish, or we can credit the article as anonymous). You will be doing a service to the bingo community and posterity by helping us record details of all Britain’s bingo clubs and halls. Thank you.
