Address (for reference only):
Independent Club
Skene Street
Macduff
We are not sure about how the Ambassador’s demise occurred, but we do know that it is no more. We also know that for many years before bingo it functioned as a cinema – The Regal. In its day it was very popular, and it even opened on Christmas Day. It appears to have been a very important part of the community, with matinees for the children, and the neon sign above the door guiding fishing boats from out at sea into Macduff harbour.
After a couple of ownership changes the cinema closed in 1963. Reopening as the Ambassador, for many years the club met the entertainment needs of the local population, before bingo took over. Unfortunately, by the time of writing it will probably have been demolished to make way for a new block of flats.
