Mecca Bingo
Station Hill

Reading’s Mecca Bingo had a phenomenal 45,000 members at the time of closure, and amongst them was Prince William who attended for a night with his army buddies – much to the delight of the other players and staff. The closure has been attributed to an advance response to the no smoking ban, bingo taxation, and the banning of fruit machines at bingo venues (higher stake ones). The reaction to the smoking ban was based on observations of the effect of the smoking ban in Scotland. This club was not the only one to be closed in an anticipatory move.

We are not sure of the earlier history of the building, so if you can illuminate us with anything that you know about the club’s previous history, please contact us.
