Although we don’t know much about Empire Bingo Preston, we do know a bit about the venue’s past. The venue originally opened as the Empire Theatre in 1911. A large theatre with seating for 3,000, its interior was of Neoclassical design, and was mainly used to stage variety performances.

In 1930 it re-opened as a cinema after having undergone interior alterations which reduced the seating capacity due to the conversion of the gallery into a projection room. The cinema closed in 1964, and was converted into a bingo club, which was operated by Star Cinemas. Bingo was called for the last time in 1974, and unfortunately the grand building was demolished in 1976 to make way for a shopping centre.
