Date of closure: 27th July 2009
Address (for reference only):
Pitsea Gala Bingo, located on the site of the original Granada Bingo Hall has closed its doors for the final time. Situated in what was originally a cinema, the hall is one of five Gala clubs closing nationally due to falling profits and increased taxation.
Despite the familiarity of this sad story, for a change there is good news. Regulars will have the opportunity to daub their cards in the nearby Bowers Social Club. The social club will be running twice weekly bingo sessions, and all profits will be returned to the ‘bingo pot’. Let’s hope the transferral of bingo to not for profit clubs is a trend that will grow.

Other Lost Halls In The Area
The photos below were taken by a member of the 28 Days Later forum who kindly agreed to let us use them. The forum is the online home of urban explorers who spend their time exploring and photographing disused buildings. The photos were taken in July 2013 (apart from the exterior shot with the signage removed). Not one of the larger halls the venue had originally been a cinema. We are not sure what has since become of the building, so if you have any information please leave a comment as we’d love to know what happened to the premises.
If you have any photos from this lost hall, be it of its interior, the staff, special events, parties, customers and more; and you’d like to share them here, please contact us to arrange adding them to the site.
