Newcastle Upon Tyne

Opened in 1912, with a mere 450 seats, the Picture Palace was a very small venue. It was renamed the Westerhope Picture House in the ninteen thirties, and was again renamed the Hay Cinema in 1941. The cinema closed in 1970 and has been operating as a bingo hall ever since, previously under the brand ‘Orion Bingo’, which became ‘Hay Bingo’ in 2017 after being taken over by the Hay family. There are now plans to transform the building into a resturant and bar although it will have to overcome some objections from the local residents.
