The Loughborough Beacon Bingo closed its doors on the 11th of March 2021. The closure came as a result of trading loses caused by the Coronavirus pandemic and business lockdowns. The closure saw 18 members of staff lose their jobs at the club, you can read more about the closure here.
Originally opened in 1936 as the Odeon Theatre, it had a reasonable seating of 1,625. As you can see from the image, the exterior is still in a reasonable condition, with the original Hathernware faience tiles in view. It lasted a cinema until 1974, having undergone a name change to Classic Cinema, and a brief stint as the Vogue Social Club. Mecca Bingo were the first owners of the bingo operation, but latterly the club is under ownership of Beacon Bingo. It is now a Grade II listed building.
Some views of the Loughborough Beacon Bingo club prior to its closure. Taken from various angles around the club they highlight the old cinema detailing and distinctive balcony area. The photographers are unknown.
