Date of closure: 2nd January 2017
Address (for reference only):
At the moment we do not have details of the events that led up to, or any of the circumstances surrounding the closure of the Gala Bingo Waltham Cross. We found about the closure when an historical cinema enthusiast sent us a photo of the closed sign when viositing the venue (thanks Darron Keeling). According to the club’s Facebook page the bingo hall has been sold, with the nearest Gala Bingo alternative being in Enfield. Other that that we have not found any other information in the local press (it’s a sad day when this isn’t considered news for the local community!).
It was situated in the premises of the old Embassy Cinema. Opened in 1937, it had 1,700 seats and had two different architects to design the building’s exterior and interior. The fine interior design was obscured when the premises were split for three cinemas in 1972. The cinema closed in 1993, and has been used as a bingo hall until its closure.
If you have any details that may assist us, and you would like to share them with our readers, we would love to hear from you. If you let us know what you know, we will put the details online with your name credited (if you wish, or we can credit the article as anonymous). You will be doing a service to the bingo community and posterity by helping us record details of all Britain’s bingo clubs and halls. Thank you.
