Chadwell Heath Mecca Bingo was located in the premises of the Embassy cinema on the High Road. The hall closed in 2014 thanks to dwindling customer numbers and an end-of-lease scenario that meant it wasn’t worth renewing for the company. The Embassy Cinema opened in 1934 and could seat 1800 cinema goers. As was the way with many bingo halls, it converted to bingo in 1966 until its closure in 2014.
The hall was then received a change of name to the Mayfair Venue, with the aim to supply an event and banquting space. However, this has led to planning issues with the local council not convinced that the change of use from bingo wouldn’t cause issues for the local residents. The building was listed as Asset of Community Value in 2017 allowing the local community to launch a restoration project with the aim of returning the buidling to its original use as a cinema and live venue.
