Update
It looks like the premises will never return to bingo as development work has started on the land. The location will become luxury duplex apartments which will be ready early in 2017. As a nod to history the complex will be named Bartle News, the Bartle family having run the bingo hall, so at least a bingo related memory will remain. No reference however will be made to the previous usage of the venue as a small provincial theatre. The Palace Theatre, having only seating for 600 patrons opened in 1914. Small it may have been, but it had an orchestra pit and a deep stage. In 1947 it became the Ritz Cinema after movies had taken over the stage over the decades. The cinema closed in 1962 and was one of the first in the wave of cinema to bingo conversions in the early sixties.
