Date of closure: June 2015
Address (for reference only):
Grays Mecca Bingo was closed by owners The Rank Group due to the club’s financial underperformance. After careful consideration they decided to terminate the lease resulting in a loss of over 20 jobs.
The venue of Grays Mecca has always been a centre of entertainment. It opened during the War (second), in 1940 as the Ritz Cinema. An Art Deco styled structure, it had 1,500 seats and although built after the ‘lavish thirties’ it is still quite an impressive building. It survived until 1976 when it was converted into an independent bingo club, prior to Mecca’s take over.
