We are not sure of the history of this club. Although we do have a few bits of the ‘puzzle’, the picture isn’t full as yet. We think the club may have been originally called either the ‘Carlton’, or the ‘Tower’. Two bingo clubs existed in Goole, and we are not sure which is which. We think that the club probably started life as the Picture Palace, which was located on Boothferry Road, and had previously been known as the Cosy Cinema, a small cinema with only 700 seats. To add further confusion, there was another cinema on Boothferry Road, the Cinema Palace, which opened in 1914. Both cinemas made it through the war without being bombed, although the Tower Bingo hall was destroyed by fire in 1995, and the premises were subsequently demolished.

If anyone could help us untangle this ‘ball of string’ we would be very grateful. If you think you could help, please contact us, and we will give you credit for any information received.
