Barney’s Bingo was a recent independent club, and it shouldn’t be confused with the older Barney’s club on Poulton Road, which occupied the former Victoria Cinema. The Station Road venue was run by Barneys Leisure Limited, a company incorporated in 2017. The Gambling Commission’s register shows it held a non-remote bingo licence from 19 October 2017, which points to a 2017 start, though a licence date doesn’t prove the exact public opening day. We haven’t found a source for what the building was before bingo arrived, so there’s no cinema or theatre angle to claim here, and there’s no architectural or interior detail on record either.

The end came in 2024. Barneys Leisure surrendered its ancillary remote licence on 10 September and its bingo licence on 11 October, and the company then went into creditors’ voluntary liquidation, with the liquidator appointed on 13 November 2024. The Gambling Commission now lists the Barneys Bingo trading name as inactive, and a local business listing marks the club permanently closed. That gives a firmer paper trail for closure than many small independents, though the sources stop short of stating why it shut, so I’d record the liquidation as the outcome rather than the cause. The date of the final session isn’t known either.
