As a child I would go on a Saturday afternoon with my Nan the late Ellen Alford and I would sit and play with old out of date books, meet other kids and just have a great time running around the hall. It was my Nan’s life line from the moment it opened until the day it closed. She went to other clubs locally but she was never the same. She had made so many friends over the years and it was a place where she had some peace and quiet away from the home. It was her love and she enjoyed every minute she was there. As I got older I used to play and we would always share our winnings. I even worked there back in 2006 when my son was a few months old. I used to work a few nights a week in the bar and kiosk and on a few occasions I even called the late books! It’s sad that it closed but I was aware the club was not making that much money and times were tough on people.
