At the moment we do not have details of the events that led up to, or any of the circumstances surrounding the closure of the Walkers Bingo Coventry, but we do know a bit about about the venue’s history.
The venue originally opened as the Globe Theatre in 1913, and as you can see from the image below, it had a rather impressive exterior even for a relatively small venue that had seating for little more than a thousand patrons. From 1925 to 1939 it was owned by Oscar Deutsch who leased it out for several years. Top Rank took over the operation in 1956, and by 1963 Mecca were bingo on the premises.
Walkers took over the club in 1987, but it only lasted two years before closing. Luckily the building still remains today, and at the time of writing is home to a nightclub.
If you have any further details that may assist us, and you would like to share them with our readers, we would love to hear from you. If you let us know what you know, we will put the details online with your name credited (if you wish, or we can credit the article as anonymous). You will be doing a service to the bingo community and posterity by helping us record details of all Britain’s bingo clubs and halls. Thank you.
