The Brighton Mecca Bingo was situated in the building known as the Brighton Hippodrome. The venue had a long history of entertaining the locals prior to its life as a bingo hall. Built in 1897, the Hippodrome had many uses in its history – circus, live venue, TV studio and ice rink amomgst them. Bingo began there in 1967, right through to its closure in August 2006. Now Grade II listed, as of 2020 the building remains empty and out of use, despite attempts to reinstate it as a live music venue.
