The Grand, like many other old school bingo halls, was initially built as a cinema. Bingo began there as a part time endeavour in the early 1970s, before specialising as a full time bingo club in February 1978. Run as an independent, family owned club until its closure, which was brought about by a decline in admissions, from 2000-2500 a week at its busiest times to under 600 a week, causing it to be no longer financially viable (read more). At this point it time, the Grade 2 listed building’s future is uncertain.
