We have so little information regarding the closure of the bingo hall that we can only imagine the effect it must have had on the local population. Originally conceived as the Palace Cinema, the premises must have seen a lot of feet through the doors over the years due to its close proximity to the colliery dwellings. Not many cinemas or theatres were built to serve the working class population outside of the major cities, and this one would have had a captive audience. In fact this was one of few village cinemas, and although we are not sure of the details, we are guessing that the building started to ‘head south’ with the closure of the collieries in the early eighties. If we are wrong about this, or if you have any other comments, please contact us, and set us straight.
