Seven Bingo was a genuinely small independent club rather than one of the national chains, occupying a large first-floor unit above Asda in Billingham’s 1960s-built town centre. The Billingham Asda below it was itself a piece of local history, opening in 1967 as the company’s first North East store and reportedly its oldest continuously trading supermarket. The bingo premises ran to around 20,629 square feet, with additional second-floor storage, part of that classic post-war shopping precinct model of shops at street level and leisure uses stacked above, with some local recollection suggesting the first floor had previously housed a bowling alley before bingo took over.

The club traded as Seven Bingo or Seven Entertainment, operated by Seven Entertainments (Billingham) Limited, incorporated in 2008 and later connected to The Bingo Lounge Limited, part of the wider independent bingo sector rather than a major chain. Stockton-on-Tees Council’s 2016 town-centre study found it accounted for 6.9% of local bingo trips, modest compared to Mecca in nearby Stockton but still a recognised local venue, and by 2019 it was also hosting community events, including workshops for the Billingham International Folklore Festival, showing it had become more than just a bingo hall for the town. The company entered creditors’ voluntary liquidation on 3 August 2022, and the former bingo hall was subsequently marketed as vacant space suitable for alternative leisure use, such as a gym. There’s no grand old cinema story here, just a solidly functional 1960s town-centre leisure space that quietly served Billingham for years before disappearing from the local bingo map, remembered fondly for one particularly memorable detail: go shopping, go upstairs, play bingo.

  1. I see my post was removed because I spoke out about a member off staff been sworn at in front of customers, which was very un professional and very embarrassing to customers who witnessed this out break. So I take it the only posts allowed are good ones not true ones, you can’t bully staff because you think you have the right to if you keep removing my posts I will keep re posting, there are two types of people I hate in this world, one is a bully and the other is an abuser,

    1. Hi, we’ve not deleted any comments here, we have both good and bad around the site. Are you sure you made them here and not on the club’s facebook page or something similar?
