St Austell Capitol Bingo – Alexandra Road

The Capitol building in St. Austell, Cornwall was opened in 1926 and was originally a cinema with a ballroom, cafe, lounge, and shops. It was later converted to a bingo hall, and has also been used as a theatre and ballroom. The Capitol closed as a cinema and became a full-time bingo hall in June 2013 – it was then operated as Capitol Bingo. The building has a rich history, starting as a cinema with the first film being Charlie Chaplin’s Gold Rush, and later adapting to serve the community as a theatre, ballroom and bingo hall.

Its future is currently in some doubt as the building has been put up for sale. It is not known whether the club will continue to operate once it has been sold, so it is very much a watch this space at present (January 2023) – details here.
