The former Mecca on Balm Road is a proper big Leeds bingo club, purpose-built rather than converted from a cinema, and it’s now getting a genuine second life under Club 3000. As Mecca, it was recorded at 1,555 seats with 50 e-bingo terminals, a substantial 211-space car park, disabled access, a hearing loop, cash machine, bar and restaurant, offering daily afternoon and evening sessions with a Saturday morning slot too. Sitting just off the M621 in Hunslet, south of the city centre, it was designed squarely around the motorist, drive in, park right outside, play, eat or drink, and head home, and Leeds City Council had already listed it as an established bingo hall by 2011.
Its story took an unusual turn when the proposed HS2 Leeds route identified the building for demolition as part of the planned Leeds cutting, effectively putting its future in doubt years before it actually closed. Those railway plans changed substantially, but the club closed as Mecca in early 2023 regardless, and the building sat unused for a while afterwards. Club 3000 has since stepped in, investing around £3 million to turn the site into its 25th club and create roughly 50 new jobs, with plans for the venue to run 10am to midnight, seven days a week, once its gambling premises licence is finalised. As of August 2026 the club is being prepared for reopening, giving Balm Road a rare trajectory among former Meccas: threatened with demolition, closed, then brought back to life as a bingo hall once again under new ownership.

Appaling service at mecca bingo hunslet tonight, games kept getting stopped due to unruly customers, phones kept going off, computers kept going faulty, felt like walking out. I’m sure this won’t be the only complaint you receive as there was numerous people unhappy with the nights events.
I cannot speak highly enough of the Mecca team here. The club was built in 2000, and still has staff remaining from the opening day. My only complaint is it seems to be the forgotten Mecca in Leeds, where Cross Gates and Mayfair get the investment this club deserves. Brilliant club and team and I am proud to be a member!
