Club 3000 Ellesmere Port occupies a purpose-built bingo hall with a genuinely eventful recent history. The building opened in 2013 as a brand-new Mecca club, costing around £4 million to construct and opened by actor Paul Usher of Brookside and The Bill fame. It replaced Mecca’s earlier presence in the town at the old Queen’s Picture House on the High Street, a cinema that had stopped showing films in 1968 and become bingo shortly after. Marina Drive itself was designed as a bingo club from day one, with no cinema history underneath it, seating over 550 with a licensed bar and café, electronic bingo terminals and fruit machines.
Mecca’s own tenure there was surprisingly short. The final Mecca session was held on Sunday 14 October 2018, just five and a half years after opening, with the company citing a long-term decline in admissions despite considerable local opposition, including a 900-signature petition. The building sat empty for several months before Club 3000 stepped in, exchanging contracts in May 2019 and investing around £1.3 million into a full refurbishment, including new carpets, seating and decoration, plus a new food and drink concept branded Cafe 3000 and Club Fizz. The building has been operating successfully as Club 3000 Ellesmere Port ever since, running afternoon and evening sessions with traditional and electronic bingo just off the town centre near the bus and railway stations. It’s a good example of a hall that Mecca couldn’t make work commercially finding a genuine second wind under new ownership, with the same building and much of the same infrastructure carrying on under a different name.

The staff are the best ever. When I took ill was a few months ago, the treatment I got from the staff was wonderful especially from Mary she couldn’t do enough. Best club I have been to always say hello when you walk in & goodnight when you leave. I travel from Birkenhead twice a week because the staff are so nice.
