Doncaster’s East Laith Gate club is one of the nicer stories in recent bingo history, because it isn’t really a closure at all. The venue had been operating as a bingo hall for around 30 years under Mecca before Club 3000 Bingo took over the existing building in April 2023, reopening under its new name on 5 April rather than replacing it with something new. Club 3000 invested more than £750,000 into the venue as part of the takeover, and many of the old Mecca staff stayed on, giving existing regulars a genuine sense of continuity even though the name over the door changed.
The 900-seat premises at 1C East Laith Gate continues to offer a proper modern bingo experience, with multiple daily sessions, traditional paper tickets alongside Club 3000’s own “Bingo Bees” electronic bingo, gaming machines, a licensed bar and food service, wheelchair accessibility and its own small customer car park. The takeover clearly paid off quickly too. Just four months after reopening, in August 2023, a regular player scooped the £50,000 National Bingo Game jackpot, the club’s first win of that prize in more than three decades. So rather than another Mecca lost, Doncaster is a rare case of a bingo hall carrying on under new ownership, with the same building, many of the same faces, and the same tradition continuing uninterrupted.
