Biggelswade Flutters is a smallish club, with about 475 seats, and is a family venue. Their is no electronic bingo in this traditional club, but there is a buffet and two bars, and some facilities for disabled patrons. The club has its own car park, and if that’s full, there’s another free car park 100 metres away. One of four clubs in the Flutters chain, it opened circa 1984, in the premises of what we think was the Regent cinema.
Can you help us fill in the details about the Biggleswade Flutters Bingo? Was it owned by another bingo chain before its current owners took over? Michael Hess: Flutters Bingo, Biggleswade
Taken as a part of the Playing Bingo commission of Michael Hess to shoot a follow-up to his book, Bingo and Social Club. Find out more about the project here.
Flutters Bingo in Biggleswade is a small bingo club and is one of the few to have been converted from a cinema to a bingo club using not only the stalls, but also the stepped area for bingo players. A ‘family’ bingo hall, the shots show everyone looking at home. There are a couple of close-ups, and a shot of the ubiquitous ‘lucky bingo board’, players have all sorts of lucky talismans, but you don’t always get to see them.
