Recent news from the world of online bingo networks comes from Microgaming, who’ve announced the closure of their bingo vertical. Last year they announced the close of their Poker Network, so it’s no surprise the company has decided to follow suit with their bingo offering to concentrate on their core casino and slots business.
The news comes during an ongoing consolidation and narrowing of the online bingo space. The last year has seen the likes of Cozy, Jumpman and Dragonfish closing many smaller skins run by partners, to concentrate on their larger and better-performing brands. As a network, the Microgaming one has always been an also-ran and less than a popular proposition, so it is no surprise that it is a victim of these changing times.
There have been a few brands that have stuck with the platform over the years, such as 32red Bingo, Butlers Bingo and Rosy Bingo. They’ll be searching for new platforms as we speak, but as of yet, there’s no indication of who they’ll go with. Microgaming have said they will help their partners with the transition away from themselves, but I’ve not seen a date when the network will finally close.
Let’s hope that whoever these brands choose, they make a decent decision, as we’ve seen many times around here, selecting the wrong software and network can be a disastrous move. Alternatively, if Microgaming is no longer bothered about their bingo software and network, they could maybe license it off to the brands to evolve it amongst themselves. Either way, expect some changes to those Microgaming sites soon. Read more here.
