The last time we reported on a Mecca Bingo club in Bolton it was to cover a robbery of the Breightmetfold Lane club, so we’re pleased that this time the new is good news. Their sister Mecca Bingo club on Omrod Street have just recently held a Christmas fair, the proceeds going to charity.
It must have been a bit of an event as the club did its best to involve local businesses, as well get more people through the doors. These type of events are happening more and more lately as bingo clubs do their best to strengthen ties with local communities and businesses in an attempt to counteract the fallout from the poor current economic climate.
The fair was held over twelve and a half hours, and was attended by approximately five hundred people. Twenty seven local businesses were involved in the event. Various small items were for sale, some brought from members of the public, the proceeds going to Bolton’s Urban Outreach, a Christian charity which supports disadvantaged and vulnerable people in the town.
The main benefactor will be Fort Alice, which is a Bolton based charitable organisation which assists women and children who are effected by domestic abuse. They will be taking donations of Christmas presents for the women that they support, so if you have something to offer, please give them a ring on 01204 701846 for details.
It is unfortunate that bingo halls do now have to concentrate on providing more than just bingo, however, the upshot of this is that more and more cash is being raised for charities, both national, and local, across the country.
So, well done Mecca Bingo, we do hope that the event did bring in a few new players, and well done Urban Outreach, and Fort Alice for doing good work for people in need in the community. Original article.
