Music events at bingo halls tend to be of the tribute variety, which is great as you get to hear your favourite tunes from the stars, played live, even if it’s not the stars themselves. But sometimes it’s good to hear the original band playing, and over the past decade, reformed bands have been popping up all over the place.
Reformations are a great bit of nostalgia and a fun night out, even if the lead singer now sports a ‘thatch’ on his head, as the luxurious locks went a long time ago. Not so for S Club 7 though, who are still their thirties, and not looking bad on it. They will be playing in Mecca Bingo Southend for a reunion gig on saturday night, the 30th of November.
It’s not the full original line up, but there will be Jo O’Meara, Bradley Mackintosh and Paul Cattermole onstage to belt out the old hits. Rachel Stevens won’t be there, she’s been very busy over the past few years delving into acting, and appearing on TV, as well as working on solo stuff, so maybe she’s a bit too busy.
Tina Barrett is likewise busy, also doing solo work, guest appearances and collaborations, so she’s probably in the studio working on her new single. Still, even without the full line-up it’s the songs that matter most, and with a game of bingo as well it promises to be a good night out.
I do have their big hit “Don’t Stop Moving”, and while not their biggest fan, it’s a great party number to bring out, and get everyone up dancing. I won’t be able to make it, but if I was in the area I would definitely heading there for a bop. Tickets are only a tenner, so get yourself along for a laugh if you can, and please let us know what you thought of the show by leaving a comment below.
