Modern And Fun But Not Perfect

The club on Cowbridge Road East is a modern puprose built Bingo Hall just outside Cardiff's centre. Whilst it has been built specifically for Bingo by the South Wales Castle Bingo chain, it suffers a few minor problems which detract from its overall appeal.

Firstly it's cramped, the rows seem narrow and the tables quite small and cramped. The seating is on two floors. In places with all the extras like bandits and that it feels quite tight and oppressive.

On the plus side the money is always good and the atmosphere is fun - always something I find lacking in purpose built modern clubs. Despite being a modern club, it feels quite old, despite some bland fittings and fixtures. I think the balcony helps that feel. It's always been busy when I've been there and the calling is top notch, but occasionaly on the speedy side. A problem with all modern clubs as they rush through to get as many Party Bingo games in the interval as possible.

Staff and special offers are excellent, like all Castle clubs - overall the impression is good, the staff friendly and helpful (the manager arranged free bubbly for a party of first timers I took there once) but one or two minor niggles stop it from being top notch.

As a non-smoker, one of the worst is the lack of a decent no smoking area. Whilst there's one in the balcony, its pointless given the amount of smoke wafting up from the downstairs.

It also lacks any real visual appeal. There's no grand old architecture to admire and some of the fittings have seen better days. Overall though, it's one club I will be returning too.
